Changes in facial volume and contour are a natural part of life.
Our role is to help you understand what may be contributing, what options may or may not be appropriate, and what is realistic for you, so you can decide what, if anything, you’d like to do.
What causes changes in facial volume and contour?
Facial volume and contour can change over time for a number of reasons, and often it’s a combination of factors rather than a single cause:
- The natural ageing process — gradual changes in facial fullness, skin laxity, and the way structures sit beneath the skin’s surface
- Bone and facial anatomy — individual facial structure, changes over time, and the way your features naturally sit
- Genetics — inherited characteristics that influence how and when volume changes occur
- Sun exposure and lifestyle — UV damage and lifestyle factors that can affect skin quality and the way the face ages
- Skin quality and shadowing — sometimes what appears to be volume loss may relate more to changes in skin texture, laxity, or the way light and shadow fall across the face
That last point matters more than most people realise. Not every concern about contour is truly a volume concern. In some cases, what looks like volume loss may relate more to skin quality, facial balance, or proportional changes — which is exactly why a careful, doctor-led assessment comes before any discussion of treatment.
What is discussed in a volume and contouring consultation?
A volume and contouring consultation at Simply Balanced is not about matching your face to a template or recommending a fixed set of treatments. It’s about understanding your face, your concerns, and what may or may not make sense for you.
Depending on your concerns and assessment, the conversation may involve areas such as:
- Cheeks and mid-face — changes in fullness or support through the central face
- Temples — hollowing or changes in volume at the sides of the forehead
- Jawline and chin — definition, structure, and how the lower face has changed over time
- Facial balance and proportion — how the different zones of the face relate to each other
- Shadows and hollows — areas where light and shadow create the appearance of volume loss or asymmetry
Treatment suitability is always individual. Not every approach is appropriate for every person, and outcomes vary.
Our Approach
Personalised. Honest. Unhurried.
At Simply Balanced Cosmetic Clinic, we don’t start with a treatment. We start with a conversation.
Dr Jeremy will take the time to understand what has changed, when you first noticed it, and what matters most to you.
He’ll review your relevant health and skin history, assess your facial anatomy carefully, and explain what he observes — including whether your concerns relate to volume, contour, proportion, skin quality, or a combination of these.
From there, he’ll walk you through which options may — or may not — be appropriate for your individual situation, with honest information about:
- 1
Likely benefits and realistic limitations
- 2
Possible risks and side effects
- 3
Whether a conservative or staged approach may be more appropriate
- 4
Aftercare, recovery, and review needs
- 5
Whether no treatment may be the better choice for now
There is no obligation to proceed, and no pressure to decide on the day. Our goal is simply to make sure you leave with a clearer, more informed picture than when you arrived.
Frequently Asked Questions — Volume & Contouring
Not at all. The consultation is designed to help you understand your concerns and your options — you do not need to arrive with a plan.
That is exactly what a consultation is for. Not every change in facial appearance is a volume issue — it may relate to skin quality, facial balance, or other factors.
Suitability is assessed individually. Factors including your health history, anatomy, and the nature of your concerns are all taken into account during consultation.
That is completely fine. Many people book a consultation simply to understand their options. There is no obligation to proceed, and no pressure to decide on the day.
If you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding, please let Dr Jeremy know when booking. Suitability during these periods requires individual medical assessment.
It helps to bring details of your relevant medical history, current medications or supplements, any known allergies, and notes about previous cosmetic or skin treatments you have had.
